Quickie - does it hurt babies when they take throat swabs?

Ds2 has to have them today to confirm measles or not.
I'm not sure if I should put him through it - want to know for sure so we know what to do about MMR, but if it will distress him I'm reluctant all for the sake of my own peace of mind.
Has anyone had them done, is it painful?
TIA.

I have had throat swabs - not exactly painful, but you feel as if you are going to gag, so not nice really.
But over in a flash - best to put your mind at rest, surely? When its all over, go and buy your DS a big tub of ice cream as a treat! Good to ease any throat discomfort. Good luck!

sorry, just realise your DS is a baby - maybe a SMALL tub of ice cream then...

Thankyou very much! It was reading the word 'scrape' in someone's description of the procedure that worried me.
Will have ice cream to hand

It was fine - just in case anyone else wonders - it wasn't a throat thing at all, they gave me a small sponge on a wooden stick, to rub on his gums for about a minute till it was soggy

He was fine

glad it's over with!
