My 18yr old DD has a small, hard lump on the top of her scalp. There isn't anything to see, can just be felt when you run your finger along the top of head. It doesn't hurt and she isn't sure how long she has had it.....anyone any ideas?

I have two of these. The doctor said they are Pilar cysts which are to do with the hair follicles growing in I think she said. She said they were harmless and if they aren't causing any problems don't need to be removed. Obviously get your daughter's checked out but it could just be this.

Oh my niece had these Pilar cysts

one got bigger and kept getting infected so she just had it removed, but it was nothing to worry about

Thank you so much for the reassurance. I tend to freak out and lumps and bumps. We are going on holiday tomorrow, but I'll get it checked out when we get back. Thanks again.

I have pilar cysts too, at least five of them. Or at least I assume that's what they are, I've never had them checked but my mum has them too so I think they're the same thing. I've had them for over ten years with no issues, like your DD's they are hard and don't move under the skin. I'd get them checked, especially if they're worrying you, but it sounds like the same thing.

Yes they are hard and don't move. I've had them years and they have never grown or changed.
