I have just had the most unbearable pain in my chest that lasted about five minutes and came in waves of intensity. It was accompanied by shooting pains up the front left side of my chest towards my neck and round the back in between my shoulder blades. While it was happening I seriously thought it was a heart attack but surely I wouldn't be able to sit typing this now? I am only 27 but admit to being obese. What the hell just happened?

go and get checked out asap Better to be sure.Heart problems often show up differently in women so better to be sure.I am not a doctor though just a concerned mumsnetter!

Trapped wind? Trying moving around a bit to see if it moves. can be very painful, if you are in doubt though call 999

It may be your gallbladder, you had better see your GP. If the pain gets worse though now call the emergency services if you haven't got anyone who could take you to hospital. Hope you feel better soon.

If you felt sick and sweaty at the same time then it could have been your heart. Either way it's probably worth getting checked out although the chances of it being a heart problem at 27 is very low - at least it'll put your mind at rest. HTH

I don't think it was trapped wind. I think I will try and get a dr's appointment tomorrow. I am also having the most horrenduosly painful late period aswell so might be worth getting checked out.

I was going to suggest gallbladder as well. Best to get checked out asap either way, though.

Call NHS direct. They'll tell you if it's serious enough to get seen straight away, or if it can wait till morning for GP appointment.

Thanks everyone, I feel a little calmer now.

You say you're having a painful late period? Do you mean sever stomach cramps , because this and shoulder blade pain can signify an eptopic pregnancy i'd go to a&e now if I were you to be on the safe side.

Ledodgy · 26/02/2008 18:56

*ectopic

Sorry I switched off the computer after my last post. I have an appointment for tomorrow to get checked out. I feel a lot better today and my pains have gone. Yesterday though I spent the morning in bed because of my period pains and was feverish aswell, I guess it could be all connected but not eptopic pregnancy. Thanks for the advice.
