Is this an allergic reaction or measles ?

I noticed a small rash on DS1 tummy on Sunday but didn't think much of it.

Yesterday he complained of a sore armpit and when I looked I saw there was a dense rash there and a more sprinkled one all over his trunk.

This morning he was absolutely covered from head to toe,and had swollen lips.

Dh took him to the walk-in centre and they said it looks like measles but because he's had no temp (but he has had cold symptoms and loss of appetite) they think it is an allergic reaction but was advised to keep an eye on him just in case it is measles.

He's had 2 doses of piriton but the rash isn't any better yet and I'm a bit concerned because I have an 8month old and a 2 year old too.

Doesn't sound much like measles as that starts on the head (behind the ears I think - if not, forehead can't remember - head anyway- then moves down). Usually there is a heavy cold with temp barking cough sore eyes and spots in the mouth at this time. Then the temp drops, then rises again at the same time as the rash appears.

Could be a different viral rash.

Lo's can get rashes that are connected to strep infections, ie throats. They can also cause tummy ache and other things. Might be worth getting them to check his throat if they haven;t already. The swollen lips thing does sound like an allergy related thing though.

I always thought that children became very unwell with measles, not just a rash.

Hope he's ok soon, rashes are so worrying in children especially when they unexplained.
