Leg/lower body pain flare ups - any ideas?

Hey,

For the last 10 years or so I’ve been having what seems to be random lower body pain flare ups, every few months.

It generally starts lower back then goes down my hips and into both legs and my groin. The pain feels pretty deep and like a burning sensation. It’s not agony but very uncomfortable. Flare ups last about a week and the pain gets worse when I’m not moving so sleeping is an issue. I need to keep wriggling and lying on my front seems to help. Finding it hard as I have 2 and 3 year old boys so exhausted when it all kicks off.

Ibuprofen seems to help. Have seen a physio who initially thought sciatica then said no due to the pain being in both legs. I was advised by my diabetes consultant to ask for a referral to rheumatology but the doctors took my bloods (not during an flare up) and the tests came back clear so I’ve got another physio appointment next month but I’m not sure if this is going down the right route.

The flare ups are unpredictable and I try to get ‘on with it’ but I’m thinking surely I shouldn’t be feeling like this in my early 30s and since my 20s. I have recently noticed that I get achy legs when I get stressed but maybe just a coincidence.

Does anyone have any ideas of what could be causing this? Just getting to the point where I would love to know and even if it’s nothing sinister at least it would take the worry away. Thanks x

Get your b12 , feretin , vit D checked would be my advice

Those being low / deficient can answer a lot

( i had a consultant examine my legs last week )

It sounds a bit like the endometriosis pain I used to get. Has that been considered? I used to get a gnawing pain that seems to radiate out and down my legs.

@worldwidetravel2017 thank you so much! I’m in for blood tests a fair bit due to being type 1 diabetic but I guess if they aren’t looking for those markers then maybe wouldn’t have shown.

I had a quick google weeks ago and ankylosing spondilitis came up especially with pain worse when resting and waking me up. It feels like such a guessing game but in my gut I don’t think physio is the right route x

@sarrat thanks for the reply. Hope you’re getting on ok with your endometriosis.

I had a laparoscopy over ten years ago and it all came back clear. This was due to having horrific period pains and family history of endometriosis. It turned out my uterus is tilted backwards which is why I was also getting back pain during periods.

I’m on the pill just now so don’t get periods /pains. Wondering do you know if this could mask other pains? Thanks x

@worldwidetravel2017 thank you! I’ve just ordered a couple of Feretin and vit d test kits to start with.

What was your experience with leg pain/deficiency in any of the three things you mentioned?x

I was low in all 3

Vit D is better after 3 months with a tablet each day and actimel

B12 - might be getting injections soon

Feretin - was low - was improved with iron iv

Consultant has diagnosed me with cfs though
