Incontinence upon Approaching my House

Cherryblossom99 · 18/07/2023 17:05

I swear I'm not a troll, I know people often get suspicious towards the OP on these topics.
But I have always had a very weak bladder, often have accidents due to effects of a muscular condition.
A common theme is the urge to pee striking as I walk into my street, due to my condition I can't walk fast and can't hold my bladder so I wet myself.
I do wear pads and have tried pelvic floor physio to no avail. Just wondering if anyone has any advice to try? I'm mid 20's and haven't had children if that counts.
Thanks

You’re young for this. Did you have any problems as a child ?
Ask to be referred to the Women’s physio

Writerscompanion · 18/07/2023 17:15

I believe it's called latchkey incontinence and is a real thing

Cherryblossom99 · 18/07/2023 17:16

Hi Dusty, yes I've always had problems. They were never investigated in childhood due to my home situation. I have had woman's physiotherapy but was recently discharged as there was nothing else they could do.
Have been referred to urology but the waiting list is years long here.

Similarly I always need an urgent poo when I'm in tesco/Sainsburys or B&M home stores. I'm definitely not a poo troll lol. It drives me INSANE

Cherryblossom99 · 18/07/2023 17:19

Now, glad that isn't my issue lol! I would be too scared to leave the house 🙈

You could try Solifenacin tablets from your GP, not a complete cure but definitely helped me.

helpfulperson · 18/07/2023 17:23

The fact that you can't contain it does mean you should seek medical advice but the sudden need to pee on approaching the house is a known phenomenon. I was amazed when I discovered I wasn't the only one.

SmoothSeasDoNotMakeGoodSailors · 18/07/2023 17:28

Yes to latchkey incontinence. I suffer from it too. It’s a pita!

BlueRabbitWasNaughty · 18/07/2023 17:29

Yes, it's a thing! I go through phases of this.... don't even need to go, then get in the driveway and am absolutely desperate for a wee. Sometimes make it and sometimes don't Blush

I think it's called urge incontinence and is psychological rather than physical.

ArbitraryHaddock · 18/07/2023 17:41

Find a good hypnotherapist. They’ll sort it in under an hour.

Omg, I’m the same in John Lewis every time! Never heard of anyone else having similar. 😁

It's any supermarket for me. My mum was the same, her view was as that it was because it was cold in supermarkets (I'm not convinced!)

Mummymn · 18/07/2023 18:09

I often need the toilet on big shopping sprees. I always put it down to the car journey or something relaxing me lol

Mabelface · 18/07/2023 18:10

I take oxybutinin for the same thing. I was a leaky child, and struggled for bloody years with it until I finally saw the doctor who prescribed the above and referred me to urology, who were happy with the meds on their own.

The meds are literally life changing.

GiveHerEffervescence · 18/07/2023 18:11

A women’s health physio told me to deeply breathe right into my diaphragm and try to relax as it’s made worse by your pelvic floor going into spasm. So relax don’t tense.

GiveHerEffervescence · 18/07/2023 18:12

It’s worse for me in the winter going from cold outside to heated indoors!!

Beeonmyeyelash · 18/07/2023 18:15

I had this for a while. It was definitely psychological. Happened whenever I went towards the bathroom at home and if someone happened to be already in there...😩. Cured it by teaching myself to stop peeing after I'd started. I'd sit on the loo stop/start on repeat. Once I knew I could hold it I sat on the loo for a minute not peeing until I decided to, despite the strong urge to go. Took a couple of months to cure and the problem never recurred.

I too have 'door key' incontinence - and have just been prescribed these- god what a game changer! They have literally changed my life! It took a year waiting for an appt so go to your GP now!

Mine’s before sex. So awkward! If anyone’s ever cured this please lmk

(Not a poo troll either, but name changed for obvs reasons 😂)

Cherryblossom99 · 18/07/2023 19:16

Thanks all, glad to know I'm not alone at least. I find this issue very embarrassing and difficult to deal with. Fed up of having to wear pads all the time.
Think I'll contact the GP again and discuss meds to at least tide me over till I get to see urology. My GP is going to be sick of me! 🙈
