Post Holiday Weight - could not believe the scales!!!

Hi all,

Just came back to the UK from 10 days in Crete. Before my holiday I was on a low calorie diet on around 1250 calories a day and lost about 2 stone in 3 months. Also cut out (almost completely) bread, pasta and alcohol and did strength exercise classes 3 times a week.

On holiday I tried to stick to meat and Salads but I did eat some bread, pasta, rice and also deserts and alcohol. Portion size was also much much bigger. It was so hot over there I became constipated and very bloated throughout most of the holiday. Found plain water hard to drink and they don’t really have ‘squash’ in Greece like at home.

This morning I jumped on the scales to check the damage (go away again in 4 weeks) and to my surprise I’m a whole stone heavier!!

I mean I had a good time, I worked hard for it but almost 2 days in my swimming costumes were tight on me. I knew I would have to work hard again to get it back off but was shocked to see 14lbs worth of damage?

Anyone had this before? I’m hoping some of it might be water retention but my clothes are definitely a little tighter and my belly has most definitely got bigger! I was never slim slim I got down from 16/18 to a nicely toned size 14.

Gutted but ready to work hard, just wanted some words of advice or experiences from anyone..

Thanks for reading guys x

Don't panic most of it will be water weight! And I believe flying can cause a bloat too if you're predisposed.

Go back on your low carb, drink lots of water and get lots of sleep and check in 1 week, I reckon most of it will go

You can't gain a stone of fat in one week, I promise

@HeadacheEarthquake thanks, I sincerely hope you can’t! It took me a good week of being strict to even loose 2lb so I cannot imagine putting that much on legitimately!

Struggled most of my life with weight gain and loss, under-active thyroid hasn’t helped (now under control)

just so disappointed when I got on the scales this morning! x

I'm m similar - have put 5lbs on in 2 weeks and I wasn't excessive

Hoping77 · 16/07/2023 12:27

@Crikeyalmighty I would have been ecstatic at 5lb in 2 weeks! You’ll surely get that off in a week or two x

Probably 5 weeks- at 61 it takes forever to shift it- I m r lost 2 stone exactly (before this) since November last year and have been very very careful.

Could the constipation be a factor?
I struggle with constipation and always make sure to keep eating prunes on holiday! I always lose weight on holiday though, not sure why as I eat more than at home. Maybe activity levels are different?

We went away in feb for 10 days and when I weighed myself the morning after we got back, I’d gained 10lbs. I nearly cried!

Bit the next morning, the weight gain was ‘only’ 4lbs, so I put the other 6 down to fluid - I did have hideously swollen feet and ankles after the long flight home.

If you've been constipated then a massive poo and shifting water weight might take a good deal of that off!
