Did anyone not have side effects with h pylori meds?

I’m due to start them asap - the pharmacy has been sent the script this afternoon and was gonna get it tmw afternoon as I’m just home from work and cba to go out again as I’m going out tonight as well.

i am worried about side effects though - they sound so grim & I’ve got friends for lunch on Sunday (can’t change it due to friend travel commitments), theatre next week and my manager is on holiday so I’ll be busier at work. I do want to try and feel better though. Thankfully I can wfh if necessary (ie diarrhoea).

Any tips to help. I plan to start probiotics straight after but assume there’s no point taking them while on the antibiotics. I thought I’d have a GP appt to discuss this and had lined one up for next week, but they just sent me a text with a leaflet!!

i try to avoid antibiotics as much as I can, haven’t taken any for 9 years ( chest infection).

I took the this treatment a couple of years ago without any issues. I didn’t feel total relief from the symptoms I had been experiencing for a few weeks so you may not feel instantly better. My main complaint was a very sore throat from reflux so it took a while to heal. I had an endoscopy a few weeks after and the biopsy taken showed the infection had been cleared by the treatment. Good luck!

@Graceymac99 / I’m glad it worked for you and you didn’t get the side effects. Reflux is my main symptom but it hasn’t been my only one.

I had H Pylori, but the treatment was just antibiotics. Are you having additional treatment?

Graceymac99 · 14/07/2023 07:05

Normally it’s the triple therapy of 2 high dose antibiotics and a PPI twice a day. Some people have difficulty with the antibiotic part of the treatment.

Boredofmyguts · 14/07/2023 13:35

@HappyHealthy23 just the antibiotics and ppi but side effects sound grim. All I got was a leaflet and my gastroenterologist waS pretty dismissive of my concerns

I had this treatment for (probably) a stomach ulcer secondary to H Pylori. It was actually fine, certainly compared to the symptoms I had been experiencing before starting them. I did take some extortionate and disgusting probiotics during and after - no idea how much difference they made though.

I had h pylori and had antibiotics recently. I felt fine on then to be honest!
Trying to build up my gut bacteria now with lots of fermented food.
