What could this black spot on my leg be?

I noticed a black spot on my leg about three weeks ago after I had applied some fake tan. I thought it might have been a bit of the tan on a spot or something but it’s been weeks, I’ve repeatedly exfoliated it and it hasn’t changed at all, except for a bit of bleeding when I went a bit rough with my exfoliating glove.

I’ve also tried squeezing it in case it’s just a blackhead but again nothing.

It’s only about 1mm big and I don’t usually get moles but I do have freckles.

Any thoughts on what it could be?

Looks like a small mole to me (I have some like that that materialised since adulthood). However, if it grows, itches or bleeds or it changes colour, you should probably get it checked.

Do you think, that’s a relief, I’m just getting old!

I wasn’t sure it was just a mole because I probably have about 5 light brown moles over my entire body, nothing like this at all.

I would personally get that checked

endofthelinefinally · 09/07/2023 21:56

Yes. Get it checked.

OhDoh · 09/07/2023 21:57

Get it checked. It's very dark.

Cacaocookie · 09/07/2023 21:58

I wouldn't call it black from the photo. Likely just a mole or a seborrheic keratosis but definitely get it checked out just in case.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 09/07/2023 22:12

Get it properly checked. The v dark ones are often more suspicious.

Also take a photo with a ruler beside it so if the GP leaves it for now you can keep an eye

Rosecat22 · 09/07/2023 22:39

Get it checked, you can get new moles even into adulthood and it not be anything sinister but it's absolutely the best thing to be safe rather than sorry. Take a picture with a ruler or something to show how big it is, and if it's a while until you can get seen by a doctor you'll have a clear picture of whether or not it's grown/ changed in any way, which will be useful for them.

Even if it is anything like skin cancer at 1mm it's absolutely tiny and won't be anything to worry about (skin cancer when caught early is incredibly treatable but don't leave it hanging around to find out!)

blor · 09/07/2023 23:15

If it's new get a gp review/ref to dermatology

greenspaces4peace · 09/07/2023 23:21

no one is saying it, but yes it could be skin cancer. so of course get it looked at by a professional. when in doubt check it checked out.

spiderlight · 09/07/2023 23:36

Get it checked out, but I had a seborrheic keratosis that looked exactly like that (and fell off on its own). It's probably nothing to worry about, but better safe than sorry.

Thanks everyone, I wasn’t sure if I was overreacting by going to the docs about it.

I’ll do an econsult straight away this morning. Thankfully my doctors are really good and usually respond pretty quickly.

May I ask you of any updates ? I had a SK that fell off but left exactly like that mark wonder if that’s common ?

Luxell934 · 01/11/2023 09:48

Any update on this?
