Ovarian cyst, kidney infection - are they linked?

I am hoping for some advice from anyone who may have had similar. I have an ovarian cyst in my right ovary, I’ve had one scan which said it was fluid filled and to go back in for a follow up scan. Also had blood test for ovarian cancer marker and no concerns here. At the same time as the cyst became painful I also developed a kidney infection. The only symptom was a deep pain in my right back. Got a 3 day course of antibiotics and it got better.
Next scan on ovary is in 4 weeks and I now have another kidney infection. Deep pain in back and swollen ankles from water retention but no other symptoms such as stinging when peeing etc.
Doctor today said the cyst and kidney pain are unrelated. He said if this next course of antibiotics doesn’t get rid of the pain then he will start looking at it being muscular. It is definitely not muscular, it is deep pain from my lower right rib cage to the lower back, hurts to touch etc it is the same side as the ovarian cyst which is still painful.
Has anyone else had similar when dealing with ovarian cysts? Thank you!

I had a huge cyst which was found during other complicated gynea stuff.

I almost had it removed under emergany surgary when it caused ovarian torsion (which is excrutiating) but by the time they had found me a bed (in a different hospital) it had sorted itself so i had urgent surgary on it <2 weeks later.

This isnt quite the same as your symptoms but it gave me lots of UTI symptoms which were also really unbearable and were most definitley linked.

Mine started to press on my bladder so my bladder felt desperately full all of the time, so i then couldnt actually tell if it was full or not.

Hhmmm I'm no expert and a doctor will tell you for sure, but kidneys often get infected from a different route to the reproductive system so I'd be inclined to say they're not linked
BUT I'm just a scientist not a doctor so absolutely not giving any advice

Op, I had 3 urine infections leading up to the discovery of an almost 6kg ovarian cyst that did indeed turn out to be stage 1a mucinous ovarian cancer.

Hi, sorry that you went through this. I am waiting for my next scan and I have read that cysts can push on the urine tract and cause infections. The lower back pain has only been present since I noticed symptoms of the cyst too and I know that lower back pain can also be a sign of ovarian cancer. Once I’ve had my next scan I’m going to push for further investigation. Thanks for taking the time to reply X
