Mucus and blood in stool - positive outcomes?

Helpmeheal · 04/07/2023 17:17

I've had bright red blood in my stools, along with mucus. I've done a FIT test via GP and waiting for results, with bloods too.

Otherwise well and no other symptoms but obviously worried. I have 2 children under 4.

Has anyone had similar and found it not to be cancer??

GP checked for hemorrhoids and couldnt feel any which has almost made me worry more as where could this blood be coming from.

Internal hemorrhoids? They can be far up.

Bright red blood is somewhat more reasurring than blacky browny as far as Im aware.

I've had this and it turn out to be ulcerative colitis although not severe enough for medication. I get colonoscopys every 3 years because of this but am always worried about a relapse of symptoms being something worse. fingers crossed you're OK.

KnackeredBack · 04/07/2023 17:23

Yup, mine was haemorrhoids and IBS (although not obvious at that stage). Hope all turns out OK. x

I have this sometimes and I also have UC but mine comes with diarrhoea.

Dh and a few friends had this and it was Inflammatory Bowel Disease- Ulcerative Colitis can give mucous and bloody diarrhoea. Crohn’s too.

GardeningIdiot · 04/07/2023 17:29

I had this, had a colonoscopy - IBS.

Stratocumulus · 04/07/2023 17:29

I’ve heard that soya can cause mucus in stools?
I’ve heard that a bleeding ulcer can cause blood in stools.
Try not to worry. The medics will get you sorted out.

I have had this and they have ruled out cancer, now testing for IBS, etc.

spiggydit · 04/07/2023 18:27

I had this recently and I was certain it was cancer (I'm in my 60's, had blood and mucus, lost a stone and was tired all the time) Referred under the 2 week cancer pathway had a colonoscopy and it turned out to be ulcerative colitis - for which I'm now having medication.

Had a double result, slow bleeding ulcer from H Pylori infection, and a slow bleeding colonic polyp. Thought I was a goner TBH. Happily ok now and all benign. Quite scary though waiting for the verdict.

CrazyBite · 05/07/2023 22:50

Yes I had this, as well as other bad symptoms. It was a polyp, had it removed 8 years ago, and have checks every 3 years. Not a single issue since.

PlainOldEmmaJane · 06/07/2023 10:01

I get this when my crohns flares.

BoobyDazzler · 06/07/2023 10:04

I did, flexible sigmoidoscopy and then full colonoscopy due to polyps which were removed. No cancer.

They were expecting to find some inflammatory bowel disease but actually there was nothing to see and it was decided the symptoms were ongoing due to a really horrible bout of food poisoning I had from a Chinese buffet!
