I have been drinking oat milk for the past 5 years - usually the Oatly brand. Sometimes also an almond milk, but tried to do less of that when I learnt how bad it is for the environment.

I have been seeing more and more research about how these alternative milks are bad for us, because it is processed. But, I also see people say that cows milk is also bad for adult humans.

Does anyone have any insight into either option?! I sometimes don’t know what to believe and what is actually good for us.

I did read that Northern Europeans are able to digest cows milk into adulthood. I presume because the ability to gain nutrients and energy from cows milk increased the chances of surviving the winters and the ones who couldn’t died out.

both my children had CMPA and I bf so ate the alternatives for a few years. I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis after my second was born and I have fewer flare up now I eat normal dairy foods again.

I only buy the shelf stable organic Oatly or any organic oat milk with just oats, water, salt. The nicest one is Jörd oat and hemp which is actually in the fridge! Was on offer at Ocado this week.
once you start buying the ones that are ultra processed you may as well drink regular semi skimmed imho if you can digest dairy!
im doing it cos I’m on a special diet but I’ll go back to cows for coffees once I am feeling better.

I get my oat milk from the milkman. It only has the ingredients needed. My stomach is much happier than when it was cow juice. It does, however, have far less calcium than cow juice but I'm taking supplements already due to osteopenia.

Have you tried goats milk? People with allergies or eczema often find this a good alternative.
I think the ‘cows milk bad’ mantra comes from the point of view of animal welfare (fair enough) rather than bad for humans per se, we’ve evolved to deal with it, in most cases.
My own DS is lactose intolerant and if he was born now would probably be diagnosed with CMPA. It wasn’t considered 30 years ago.
