How long do cut gums take to heal?

Random question but lots of useful people on here...
I've got a cut in my gum, happened about a year ago next to an incisor. Something sharp sliced into it. At dentists 5 months ago they said it would just heal up. Except it hasn't and it's been a year now!
Is noticeable to me when I smile. Anyway, question is how do long gums actually take to heal up? Maybe some dentists/ dentists assistants on here could advise!
(Bit of rubbish pic but it's split where the red mark is still)

Normally in a few days if it is persisting something is irritating it.

I see, I was told to keep brushing the affected area though...
