How were they?

Ds had a cold and barking cough last week now got a rash. Dh took him to the docs yesterday and he said straight away it was measles. Apart from him been a little more whingey than usual he's fine in himself. Is that about right?

Also the doc gave us antibiotics, incase of any secondary illnesses that measles can bring, but ds gets in such a state when we try give them he ends up been sick so doesn't get any medicine into him. This morning i tried to disguise ab's in choc milkshake but he only had about half and refused anymore cos he could taste it. Any tips to get ab's into him.

He's just turned 2 btw

bump

some peoples' kids here have.

Has he not had a fever? I thought measles came with a high fever.

My dd1 had measles around the age of 2.10 years. She wasn't particularly unwell with it, just the rash, whinging and off her food a bit. She wasn't prescribed any medication. I assumed (wrongly) that because she had had her MMR then she would be immune. GP said that in his opinion had she not had the MMR then she would have had it more severely. Hers was a very mild case and she was only slightly unwell for a week or so.

Sorry no tips re the abs

Obviously some children have it very severely (we were lucky) with a fever as Ledodgy mentioned, also I think it can make them very sensitive to light and affect their eyes.

Divastrop · 22/02/2008 21:07

my gp was pretty sure ds2 had measles, but she double-checked with a more experienced doctor who said it was a viral rash.

i was given some foul-tasting ab's for dd2(2) a couple of months ago and she wouldnt take them,so i asked for different ones.

DD1 always gets chest infections.

try mixing the ab's in a Petit Filou.

failing that, show him a Jaffa cake, then the syringe full of ab's - we always use syringes.

dose him with the ab's and then hand him the biscuit.

He had a bit of a temp with his cold but not severely high and he hasn't got a temp now.

He's had the mmr jab too so i thought he couldn't get it either.

He is off his food but at the mo he also has oral thrush because he was in hospital with an infection 2 weeks ago so was also on ab's then so thrush is prob from them.

We can't see spots in his mouth because of the thrush iykwim.

Thanks expat i'll try the petit filous. We use syringes too otherwise we all end up wearing the stuff if its on a spoon. I've tried bribing him with chocolate but he won't do it he just thinks he can have the choc without meds.

dd1 had it when she was 2 or so, wasn't very pleasant but I gave her Vit A and treated her with homeopathy. Odd thing was, ds1 and ds2 (a tiddly baby) didn't catch it.
Doc took swabs to confirm it.
