ds (4) seems to have an abscess on his buttock

caused by the bloody molluscum contagiosum
The poor chap has had very persistent molluscum for 1.5 years now - I thought it was finally starting to shift, quite a few of the really big ones popped recently.
Unfortunately the sore area on his buttock seems to have developed into an abscess.
A week ago his whole bum cheeck started to look red and swollen - I left it this week, hoping it would sort itself out, as he doesn't seem too bothered by it (no fever or anything, he does mention that his bottom hurts occasionally though) but it's just not changed really. It seems to be quite deep down IYKWIM, not near the surface like a spot.
Treatment sounds like a bit of a nightmare - everything I've read says that it will need to be drained and that antibiotics aren't effective.

Has anyone come across this problem?

geekgirl - ds had molluscum on his bottom that got infected (by poo getting into the sore areas) - it did clear up eventually though so I don't think it had actually gone as far as becoming an abscess.

Have you seen a GP?

no I feel really guilty for not taking him

I kept thinking that it'll just come to a head - he's had so many sore molluscums

Geekgirl DS2 had the exact same thing. he had molloscum for about 18 months - mainly across both buttockas and his testicles. Eventually one of the spots became infected and really swelled up the abcess was about 3 cms in diameter but his buttock was hugely distorted. Over the course of a week or so it became infected - eventually a huge pointed, puss filled head on an abscess. He was in the bath one day and I got it between my fingers and squeezed it. It took very little pressure to burst - a huge amount of gunk came out. It hurt him a little . But it healed quickly and then over the course of the next two weeks all of the little molloscums became infected (think little pimple not abscess) and they all just dried up and disappeared. I had read that molloscum is usually cleared up by a bacterial infection - I just hadn't realised it would be so spectacular.

uptomyeyes, that sounds hopeful then I'll see if I can bring the bastard thing to a head this weekend with frequent baths and deal with it myself - hate the thought of someone lancing his little bottom

I hope you get to the bottom of it over the weekend

I am sooo with you on this one - and really relieved for you geekgirl - you must feel so much bettter.

ds2 had a total monster of a spot 'go' int he bath last week - it really upset him but I was delighted. I've just started trying the colloidal silver remedy as they're all over his legs, trunk and testicles. Poor kid has enough on with us injecting his thighs for his diabetes.

excellent!!! Pus is amazing isn't it - poor dd1 had them all over her face
