How long can a stomach virus/sickness bug last?

My almost one yr old has been throwing up since Monday. Took him to drs and he said its a virus, give calpol for temp, carry on bf, give rehydratiosn stuff. He won't drink the latter and we did have a period of at least 24 hr where we didn't offer food (just bf). He hasn't had temp since wed and has eaten the odd bit of toast, banana or biscuit. But still vomiting at least twice a day, usually after bf early am feed and bf pm feed. Hes just wants to doze and cuddle. He hasn't had diarrohea.

How long do these viruses last? Luckily hes a 98+ percentile boy but he looks so much less chunky now.

oh AGES! When ds1 was about 10 months he had one that went on for about 2 weeks - the vomiting stopped after about 10 days only to be replaced by the most revolting diarrhoea for a few days. But they do go away in the end.

thanks. Did he eat during that time? Hope mine doesn't go the diarrohea route!

Not much - have you tried teh BRATY thing (bananas, rice, apples, toast, yogurt)? But I think dehydration is the main problem so try to make sure he's getting enough liquids. We had the same problem with the rehydration stuff - try different flavours - he'd take the blackcurrant one iirc but not the banana.

They soon make it up once they're better ime.

thanks, I knew about BRAT but not the yoghurt bit. Hes drinking water, doesn't like the blackcurrent ones so may try banana flanour and bananas too.
Am bf but upsettingly he always throws up after a feed, keep thinking its me!
