Lump on tongue with pic

Hiya!
Basically I wanted to post here before booking a gp (dont want to waste their time) or (expensive) dentist appointment.
I've noticed this lump on the side of my tongue this week, it is painless and squishy, could have been there longer I'm not sure. Worried about potential mouth cancer, unlikely as I'm in my 20s but could be possible. Also I'm thinking it could be scarring from biting/ chewing on my tongue (i do this alot🤣) but I really don't know
Anyway thanks if you have any advice or comfort to give me, feeling pretty down reading news stories and such. I feel better about posting a thread it feels as if I'm doing something proactive I guess.

I'm not seeing anything in that pic OP.

Sometimes I get random stuff happening with body parts..have had a sore tongue at times (sore after eating something that's scratched the surface, after too many fizzy sweets....all kinds of reasons). I just leave it and let it heal, or if it's bothering me a gargle with warm salt water before bed helps. I don't really give it a second thought.

Do you have some sort of health anxiety perhaps?

I admit it i do think i have health anxiety 😅 I need more reassuring than most and my poor partner can't listen to me worrying all night so I posted here.
Thank you for replying though, It's not sore but it could be shaped differently shaped than the other side, which is just smooth. Not done anything different to trigger such a thing that I can think of.

It looks OK to me - maybe mention to dentist next time you go?

Valhalla17 · 06/06/2023 00:51

Oh OP, I appreciate its hard when you're anxious about these things, it's not something you can suddenly stop thinking about....but honestly all I see is a healthy normal tongue. You might have scraped it or it could have been irritated by something.

Clearly I'm not a doctor, so if it carries on for days on end and gets worse then do what you've got to do and phone the GP 😉but hopefully it will start to feel normal again after a day or so

I'm not even sure what part I'm supposed to be looking at, is it that tiny little bump on the top that looks like a pimple? Because it could literally just be a pimple, or the remains of a small ulcer you haven't noticed, or a little lone lie bump. Tongues are weird things, but that looks like a normal healthy tongue to me.

Oh sorry I should have specified, its raised on the side, sorry it was hard to capture. You can see a line where the shaddow is and the other side is completely smooth. Thank you for your reply

Oh, that! I have that too, I'm a chronic tongue chewer so it's almost definitely just from chewing your tongue. For peace of mind have your dentist have a look next time you're there but honestly I don't think it's anything to worry about.

Ah okay! Glad someone has something similar couldn't seem to see anything like it online. I definitely chew my cheeks, I think my dentist has commented on scarring inside of my cheeks before actually. I could be doing it to my tongue when I'm sleeping or something l. Thank you
