Is shingles always lots of spots?

I've got 3 or 4 really itchy, sore spots below my breast on my ribs. They don't look like bites and I only noticed the first two this morning. They've got bigger as the day has gone on and another couple have popped up.

I've been feeling really tired and crappy but I've put that down to having a fracture.

Does shingles always present as clusters of spots or can it just be a few in a line?

For me it was just a few spots on my back. Really very painful rather than itchy.
Maybe send a photo to your gp?

Thank you @hexsnidgett. I'll see if they will accept a photo to have a look. Usually they call you in for most things but I can't get there at the moment. I'm unable to drive due to this ridiculous huge fracture boot.
