Am I entitled to a copy or the original of a dentail x-ray?

I need some dental work and have decided to get dh's uncle in France to do it free for me rather than find the enormous amount of money it would cost me here. I had an xray done in the UK and would like to avoid having another one so wonder if the dentist will let me have the x-ray. Does anyone know what rights I have to ask for it?

It is the property of the dentist. I work for a dentist and we give them to patients but they have to pay a £5 charge. HTH
