I’ve not been able to poop for the last 4 days, this is completely out of character for my body as I normally go at least once, sometimes twice a day.
I have had IBS for decades but the last year has been awful. I have a super sensitive gut and although I wouldn’t say diarrhoea is my main issue, constipation isn’t either, I just have loose stool often and many other digestive issues to go with it, this is an ongoing issue and the gastroenterologist can not seem to help.
However, on Saturday I woke up fine after a good night and needed the loo as usual but it was loose followed by a one off episode bout of diarrhoea which burnt my rectal area like I’ve never experienced before, it was agony.
I called 111 for advice and they recommended I go to the OOH centre to get checked. I took an Imodium before, just in case anything occurred in the journey there.
The nurse did an internal examination and said the burning was probably from the acid in the diarrhoea and prescribed me some cream.
However, since Saturday, I haven’t been able to pass a stool. I have never gone more than a day without using the loo. I keep getting the feeling that I need to go (literally every 15 minutes on Sunday and Monday) but nothing came out other than clear mucus (sorry tmi), since then I keep feeling the need to go but nothing - stupidly flared up my haemorrhoids sitting on the loo so much so now have that to deal with too -urgh!
I admit, on Saturday I ate nothing apart from white toast in the evening. Then on Sunday white toast again and a white bread sandwich in the evening, on Monday rich tea biscuits, white bread ham sandwiches again (tbh, it was all I fancied). Yesterday 2 slices of white bread, ham and dinner was mash, ham, carrots and greens beans for dinner.
Although I usually do follow a low fibre diet I don’t usually eat much white bread as I am on the low fodmap diet for my IBS and steer clear of it but it really was all I could face.
BUT I now feel so blocked up and don’t know how to ease it without going back the other way and getting diarrhoea which I really want to avoid.
I have started taking some probiotics in the hope they may help restore some harmony.
Any suggestions/remedies to help get back into some kind of rhythm without causing to much havoc in my already sensitive gut?
