I’ve name changed as this could be outing.
I'm hoping someone may be able to help me with my Human alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) blood test results and what they could mean / if I should push doctors for more.
About 18 months ago I had several gyne appointments which resulted in some surgery for endometriosis and Adenomyosis. At the time I had several blood tests resulting in high AFP results (13, when they should be around 6). I had quite a few tests and they remained at that level. Had the surgery and consultant said to
monitor results. This marker indicates a tumour.
Anyway, I recovered from surgery and had blood test repeated - still high. Fast forward to today and my results say I’m now at 15.
I can’t get a follow up appointment until mid June with the doctor. Should I push for a closer appointment? My liver function is fine as are my kidneys. Could this be related to endo? Has anyone had this? I do have a large fibroid and cyst/s - could this be causing the levels to be high and get higher? My consultant didn’t indicate this.
It’s difficult to get any info on google because AFP is related to embryo growths, so I get lots of info on pregnancy. I’m 100% not pregnant.
anyone have any info to share?
