Can I catch shingles from my son having had the chicken pox vaccine? Feeling awful and have a rash down one side of my body.

@Candyfloss2 the virus that causes cold sores is not the same as the virus that causes chicken pox or shingles.

Herpes simplex causes cold sores and herpes zoster causes shingles after an initial infection with chicken pox (varicella virus)

@Candyfloss2 A shingles vaccine will not help against cold sores which it sounds like you are getting on your face.

If it was/is shingles then you should be able to get antivirals to help speed up recovery.

Supposedly you can't, however I also developed singles right after my children had the chicken pox vaccine. Since then it has reactivated a second time when I was really unwell with something else.

I heard cold sore in eyes is leading to blindness almost .
so shingle is less dangerous ? But the side effect of shingle can be serious .
anyway I am not medic I don’t even know what I am talking about .

From September the shingles programme will be extended and the vaccine will be offered to those aged sixty and over, and to those fifty and over if immune compromised.

Shingles is very very painful and unpleasant. I've had it as an adult and my husband has had it twice as an adult. I'd definitely take any available vaccination. The antivirals will clear the rash up fairly quickly but we were both left with very unpleasant pain in the affected areas for weeks after.

Oh this is good. It is expensive privately.
