Hi
so I had these chronic chest pains and burping/winding symptoms for around 2 months now. The Gp put it down to gastritis and prescribed Omeprazole once a day. I can’t stop thinking it would just stop acid production but how is it gonna treat the inflammation????? Please any explanation would be highly appreciated
thanks

Not a dr but have 2 children on it as they have unsafe swallows and severe reflux.
The Omeprazole neutralizes the acid so when it is regurgitated it doesn't burn the throat and oesophagus basically so in time the symptoms should settle.

It reduces the amount of acid which is produced and also has anti inflammatory properties. It’s even used for inflammatory bowel disease now. I’m not a doctor but Dd is prescribed it, does seem to help a little….but she’s not great at taking it regularly. Think it would work more if she did.

PPI’s don’t neutralise acid they reduce the amount of acid produced so that some is still produced to process waste but the volume is vastly reduced. The less acid the less irritation to the stomach as food utilises and passes through

I was prescribed this and find it calms my digestion down.
