Did you realise that being on the pill can give you horrendous PMT / anxiety?

I didn't .. but was wondering why my moods / anger everything has been escalating over the last year to the point where I barely recognised myself for a week or so each cycle and my libido had just died

turns out it was the microgynon I was taking

have changed pill the last month and life is so much easier

just a heads up

because I should have figured but thought the pill was helping

MY GP said the pill can help PMT symptoms or make them worse, it's so individual. Don't know much about microgynon. I have never taken the pill and suffer with awful PMT.

Being on the Pill makes me very anxious and prone to panic attacks. It really does not agree with me at all.

TBH I would never, ever touch the Pill again. My mum got breast cancer and it was the type most assocaited with use of the Pill. Her consultant told her that had she not spent 10 years on the Pill and 4 on HRT then she almost certainly would not have got the cancer that she had.

SheherazadetheGoat · 18/02/2008 18:30

i was a fricking nutter on microgynon

clayre · 18/02/2008 18:33

thats the pill i started on after xmas and i have been a nervous wreck and over reacting at everything, and when i went to the dr last week he totally dismissed it and assumed i had some sort of depression!

Emprexia · 18/02/2008 18:49

i've had no problem with microgynon, i've been on it since i was 15 and its helped me to survive my periods.

snorris · 18/02/2008 18:53

I'm fairly sure microgynon was the one I was on. Mood-wise I wasn't too bad back in 2005 but I went back on it after having dd4 and I was evil so have stopped it. I have a lot more going on in my life now so maybe it enhances your moods rather than just causing it IYSWIM.

LilRedWG · 18/02/2008 18:55

Suited me before DD but now I'm an evil witch and feel so down for two weeks of the month. I'm going onto a non-hormonal coil and upping my Prozac!

littlerach · 18/02/2008 19:02

I had to come off the pill after dd1 as it had caused such terrible PMT, but all month, I htought I was going crazy.

I went back on it about 18 months later and wasn't too bad.

Clayre, one dr I saw said the same to me, but the next one told me to stop taking it, as did the HV.

Habbibu · 18/02/2008 19:05

Ooh - was on microgynon in my early 20s and was just miserable - couldn't understand why until I stopped.

southeastastra · 18/02/2008 19:13

i was on microgynon for years, it takes away alot of your sex drive . have to say since having coil pmt is alot worse.

clayre · 18/02/2008 19:20

i think i only have 2 tablets left to take and i'm not taking them or anymore to see if it is them or if i'm just losing the plot

lizziemun · 18/02/2008 19:20

Yes was on mavalon before and after having dd1, took it for 8mths after her birth and woke up one night and if dh had spoken to me i would have attacked him. He through them away. we ttc no2 anywhere although it took another 2years to get pg.

Doctor put me on a different after having dd2 and only took them for 3months and was becoming a b*tch for 2 weeks a month.

So now i take nothing.

moodlumthehoodlum · 18/02/2008 19:26

I have just come off the pill, trinordial, because I was crazy, depressed and vile to everyone for two weeks, so I'm really hoping that there's a change this month, otherwise this is obviously the way I am now!

Non hormone coil? What on earth is that? It sounds great.

LilRedWG · 18/02/2008 20:41

Basically just a copper coil with no added hormones. The copper poisons the sperm and stops them doing their job plus the mucus thickens in the neck of the womb, due to irritation, and helps stop them getting through (or something like that).

KathG · 18/02/2008 21:15

Twiglett - which one have they put you on instead? Am wondering if my moods are mycro induced!

moodlumthehoodlum · 18/02/2008 21:45

LilRed - thanks for the info. Not sure what to try now I'm off the pill so might give that coil a whirl (probably wrong word to use there..)

LilRedWG · 19/02/2008 08:40

No problem. I haven't had mine fitted yet, should be in the next month or so.

I went to the doctor last Friday and said, "My depression is definitely worse for at least two weeks of the month, I'm sure it's linked to my hormones and I think that Microgynon is making it worse. I have no sex drive and can barely get out of bed on a morning - please help!" And she did

LilRedWG · 19/02/2008 08:41

Thanks for starting this thread Twiglett - it's definitely making it easier to cope with the wait to come off and get my coil fitted.
