Can anyone explain these blood results - iron.

I had blood tests done as I’m absolutely drained all of the time.

Heamaglobin 10.7
Ferritin 4.9
Transferrin Saturation 8%

i don’t speak the native language of the country I live in yet, so medical appointments are hard. The doctor indicated the transferrin saturation is the reason I’m anaemic. I’ve tried to Google to understand what’s what but it’s just confusing me more 🤦🏻‍♀️

If anyone is able to explain, I’d be really grateful.

Ex haematologist, you need iron.

Anyonebut · 13/05/2023 07:16

Those levels indicate iron deficiency anemia.

Transferrin is a protein that transports iron around the body, they test how much transferrin is actually carrying iron in your blood, if the level of transferring carrying iron is lower than 10 percent, this indicates there’s not enough iron stores in your body to be carried around, i.e., you’re anemic.

I take it you’ve been prescribed iron now

Can I ask why you are an ex? Did you leave the profession

@MerciMerci your results are similar to mine!

Iron - 6
Ferritin - 11
Transferrin Saturation is 6.5%

Can I ask what symptoms you've been having?
