I don't see how they can fail if you eat a balanced diet too .. it looks like torture!

PurlyQueen · 18/02/2008 00:35

Absolutely - it's 45 minutes of pure cardiovascular exercise. Three classes a week helped me to lose 3 stone.
Drink lots of water during the class and expect to sweat - a lot!

brimfull · 18/02/2008 00:42

wow purlyqueen well done,I take it you were dieting as well?

It all looks a bit too much for me - they all look super skinny as well in the gym where I go to. I'm too scared to join in - I think I'd throw up or something.

yes, I was ggirl
Be prepared to work hard, but take the spinning classes at your own level of intensity and you won't throw up

I used to see all these middle aged, overweight men sweating like pigs and looking as if they were about to die after the class, which (understandably) put me off doing spinning classes. They look like that because they've been over-doing it.

In fact, I'm looking forward to getting back on my spinning bike once i get the all-clear from my GP after my baby is born.

itchscratch · 18/02/2008 18:11

i hate using the bike in the gym, i find it dull and so avoid it. does that mean that i wld find spinning boring too, or does the flashy disco light/loud music combo help??

i wld like to speed up my weight loss and my gym dude told me it was fab for burning calories..

ZippiBabes · 18/02/2008 18:13

what is spinning it sounds like sex..but i see it involves bikes

ivykaty44 · 18/02/2008 18:18

It can depend on who is taking the class - as to whether it is boring or a good class. I like the music and banter in two of the spinning classes I go to.

It is intervel training and that is what really helps to shift the weight - if you just cycle or run at the same speed your body is really clever and will save energy (humans are made to conserve energy) where as intervel training your heart rate goes up and down like a yoyo and your body can't conserve the energy - so hay presto the weight comes off really weel.

cyclist have very low BMI somewhere around the lowest of sports woma/men.

So yes it is well worth the 45, eventually you may even come to enjoy it - I do!!

brimfull · 18/02/2008 19:03

well that's spurred me on...am going to go for it.
Bring on the sweat!

i like it because my local gym had a spinning studio, which was dark except for disco lights, so you couldn't really see yourself sweating and panting in the mirrors /

Go for it ggirl and let us know how you get on.
