My throat is very very painful. No pain relief touching it. Can't get throat spray far enough back, just numbs the back of my mouth. Tried warm drinks, paracetamol, ibuprofen, Difflam. Saw OOH GP who said it was borderline whether viral or bacterial and prescribed antibiotics but said to wait 24 hrs to see if it improves or take them if symptoms get worse. I'm a SAHM of a nearly two year old, and am not looking forward to tomorrow when DH is back at work. It hurts to talk and my head is also painful.

It hasn't got worse since this morning, or not significantly, I don't think. I had no pus in throat when seen this morning, have no cough and no fever, though did have a mild one overnight and couldn't get warm to the point of shivering for two hours last night, then woke up boiling after using extra blankets. GP said neck glands are up. He said unlikely to be Strep A as no strawberry tongue or tummy pain.

My throat is very painful. I can swallow but it hurts.

Should I start the antibiotics? It really is very sore and I'm not looking forward to tonight but equally don't want to take them if they'll have no effect anyway as it's viral. Any thoughts as I'm getting a bit desperate for pain relief.

Try during a full sugar Coke - it’s the only thing that worked for me when I had my tonsils out as an adult. I wouldn’t normally touch it but it was like a miracle cure for me in taking the pain away. A nurse recommended it to me.

How are you feeling @HoboHippo?

HoboHippo · 08/05/2023 20:06

Hi @vickyq1983 I am doing so much better! GP was spot on when she said she thought I'd pick up over the weekend. My throat is still croaky and have a tickly cough but feel a million times better. Think it was definitely bacterial, just took the antibiotics a bit of time to kick in. How are you doing now?

Oh I'm glad to hear that! That's great news. I was getting better and then last night suddenly deteriorated again. I woke up this morning coughing up blood so went straight to the hospital and it looks as if I've had a cyst caused by the infection which has burst. So I'm feeling pretty grim again but still definitely better than this time last week so hoping to just improve from this point.

Oh no, you poor thing! That sounds absolutely awful. Are you still in hospital or have they sent you home with more drugs? What a horrible thing to happen, really hope it's upwards from here for you.
