Have to pay for docs appointment here. So if poss would like to do test at home first and go to doc if the test is positive.

tis possible to get one from chemist - about £10 from Boots, but not sure how helpful that is as presumably you're not in UK if you are having to pay for doc's appt.

i'm not sure if there is a test that you can buy over the counter. you can certainly buy a blood tester and testing strips. an adult's blood sugar reading should be between 3 and 8. DH's reading was something like 24 when he was diagnosied.

i think you should DEFINITELY see the doctor as there are 2 types of diabeties and treatment is dependent on what type you are and very trailored to you.

If it's type 1 it needs urgent treatment so i'd go to the docs asap. What symptoms does she have? I've had type 1 since i was 9

What symptoms do you have to make you think you have diabetis.I have pre meltus blood sugar that means my body dosent deal with high amounts of sugar so i need to adjust my diet eat low sugar /fat food. Also i need to loose weight. My bllod test showed i was 6.8.Then i had a fasting test (2 blood tests within 2 hours.) A sugary drink in between and that revealed i was premeltus. My signs were always thirsty and weeing a lot.Esp during the night.Best see doc as you might be worrying for nothing.GOOD LUCK XXX

symptoms - often thirsty and weeing a lot and a desire to eat sweet things all the time. It's my 15 yr old DD by the way.

My brother has type 1 so I want to err on the side of caution.

I've had type 1 for 27 years. The symptoms do sound probable I'm afraid (but hopefully not obviously). Do go to the doctors so that a proper diagnosis can be made. Good luck )
