Keep smelling cigarette smoke and it’s driving me insane

It comes and goes in waves of a week or so at a time then goes for a week or so, then returns.
It started last June, a week before we all came down with Covid. I know there are some people getting this after Covid but it definitely started a week before (I keep a dairy) and I caught Covid off my daughter.
I am 50 and in perimenopause, I have heard it could possibly be due to this but I’m getting so churned up worrying what it could be and thinking all scary things. My mum has Alzheimer’s and her sense of smell was the first thing to go haywire so I’m stressing about that too.
Has anyone else had this? What was it and did you managed to get rid of it?

I got this after covid, but I had allergies and dodgy sinuses before. For me it's related to my sinuses and a first indication that they might be a bit aggravated. Sinus rinse and nasal spray usually settle it down now. But the first time I got it, it lasted for ages and was driving me mad.

I had this for a while, I think it must have been after Covid as well (which I’ve had twice). This thread has reminded me of it so it must have been gone for about a year now but it was very frustrating at the time. I didn’t do anything to try and get rid of it though as from googling there didn’t seem much one could do.

ReinventingMyselfSlowly I have often wondered if I have sinus issues as I’ve had a blocked nostril on/off for years. I’ll try a spray, thanks.
SoupedUpSue I’ve had a Google too and not much advice on there as you say. It really does drive me to insanity.
