I'm wondering why I feel energetic and really 'wow' in the morning but then from lunchtime onwards I feel really draggy and exhausted. Its like I can't shake out of a post lunch slump. I'm sure I used to have stamina to last the day.
Any thoughts please?

I have this too - my friend has a theory it is caused by too much carbohydrate at lunch ? I am sceptical but I think it is to do with digesting food - my body doesn't have enough blood to power my tummy and my brain!

what are you having for lunch? You need something like beans or lentil soup and some fruit to get your energy levels up

HereComeTheGirls · 15/02/2008 14:15

I feel like that all day, so would be interested to read any tips here! Mind you I think not having a 16 month old would give me more energy

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/02/2008 14:38

I tend to have a sandwhich and a bit of fruit. Sometimes a couple of biscuits. Would that effect the whole of the rest of the day? I feel sleepy tired and physically tired.
I am borderline underweight (7 st 12 at moment at 5' 5") so lunch time I tend to eat for calories.
Breakfast is a bowl of homemade unsweetened museli with dried fruit, nuts and seeds in it and also a bowl of homemade yogurt with stewed fruit. Glass of juice and two cups of tea. Then don't eat til lunch.

Its the typical mid afternoon slump. You should really try an elevenses snack I think and make sure what you eat for lunch is slow release energy foods and nothing too heavy as I think your body takes all your energy trying to digest it all. Maybe some fruit or nut or veggie sticks? Otherwise have you thought of taking suppliments like the B complex or Co-enzyme Q10 which are your energy vits

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/02/2008 08:25

thanks
I will try and change my lunch and maybe some elevenses. Youre right, some fruit then might make me less likely to go for a carb heavy lunch. Yesterday I paid close attention and whilst I didnt regain my morning energy I slumped shortly after lunch and picked up somewhat at about 5pm. Seems like a long slump! I'll look into those vits as well.

yep have more protein at lunch

you could also try Kiki superfood which is a supplement (revolting green powder but you can mix with juice to make acceptable) which gives me a real boost as soon as I take it

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/02/2008 08:49

I'll look out for that F&Z, thanks
So...
beans with jacket potato
err...
tuna and ermmm? (don't get much salad in box at this time of year)
a left over sausage and?
veggie soup

I find it really hard to get away from sandwiches and pasta. I honestly cant think of 'quick to cook' high protein lunches! help please!!!

pasta with some beans and cheese added?

I don't think you have to avoid carbs altogether, but add lots of protein. I personally would feel hungry if I just had protein and no carbs

cornsilk · 16/02/2008 10:38

I always feel tired if I have anything with refined sugar in during the day. Eat fruit or yogurt after your lunch. Also bread makes me tired. I often have porridge with fruit in at lunch time.
