Toddler DS with temp and cough...how long do these things last?

My DS (2.9) has had a runny nose for a week, a temp on and off since Sunday, and a chesty cough since Tuesday. I just took his temperature there again and it is around 38C. Nurofen and Calpol do bring it down but he has been on the maximum dose of both for 4 days now. He is coughing a LOT and is very miserable and whiny. How much longer should this last for? I had him at the docs on Monday as I thought his chest sounded a bit rattly but she sounded him out and said it was clear, and that she didn't want to give him anti-b's just yet.

He also has conjuctivitis at the moment, so is a right sorry looking wee thing.

Controversial suggestion coming up.

His temp is not that high. Fever is one of the body's ways of dealing with infection. Why not lay off the fever suppressants for a bit while continuing the cool room etc and see if his immune system can see it off? You could ask the doctor if this is a good idea if you feel unsure?

i would go back to the doctors tomorrow if he is no better. My dd has had the same thing, took her to the docs last week said it was just a cold, it went abit then came back worse. the doc gave her anti-b on tuesday this week. (dd is the same age as your ds btw). im not a big fan of anti-bs but sometimes they do need them to shake these things off

LOL no hard hat necessary. I tried leaving it longer between doses but he was utterly miserable, moaning and crying. I felt guilty! He's not eating at all either, however he is drinking so I'm not concerned about that at all.

DD (22 months) has started coughing in the exact same way today.....I hate this time of year!

Well, took him to the docs and it has turned into a chest infection so is on antibiotics. Hopefully he will get better now.

DD coughed non-stop all night and now has a temp too. There's no show without Punch!
