What are your symptoms of anxiety?

If you suffer with anxiety, what are the physical symptoms you get? I'm trying a process of elimination to see if it's something more sinister or anxiety.

The physical symptoms of chest pain are so real to me, though. I can't see how it can be anxiety?

Chest pain and pressure
Shortness of breath
Throat tightness
Diarrhea
Heart palpitations
Sweating
Feeling like you can't take a full breath (e.g feeling like you have to yawn to get air in)

Could be just some of them or all of them combined.

These were my main anxiety physical symptoms (I haven't had an attack for a few years now, but remember this vividly).

My advice would be to get help as soon as possible. You can get better Flowers

I’m sorry you’re struggling. My anxiety doesn’t manifest that physically but chest pain and tightness is definitely part of it. Sometimes like I can’t catch my breath. They do need to investigate chest pain though and not write off as anxiety until they are sure there is no physical cause.

Exactly the same for me !

OP I once ended up in A&E thinking I was having a heart attack . I wasn’t but i came off my anxiety meds too fast .

I hope your feeling better soon, I’d really speak to your GP xxx

Chaat pain, ranging from aching to sharp stabbing pains.

Heavy chest feeling, lump in my lower throat, unable to catch breath.. physical heart palpitations, sweaty palms, stomach pain, feeling light headed or dizzy.. feeling like Im about to have an upset stomach.

all vary in severity depending on the situation that making me anxious. I get random panic attack that’s usually present as heart palpitations, feeling like I can’t breathe and sweaty palms - so nothing really triggers that as they’re random

Anyone else with anxiety reading this and every time you read the ‘feeling like I can’t breathe’ or ‘need to take a deep breath’ comments making you you take a deep breath?! 😂

Mumma2Ro · 12/04/2023 20:38

I feel nauseous
i get the shakes
feel sweaty
very snappy and moody
chest pains

LillyBugg · 12/04/2023 20:43

I get tummy flutters. Then feel sick. Then start to shiver and cannot get warm at all. Then diarrhoea. And that goes around in a circle until I eventually get warm and calm enough to fall asleep and I have to pray I sleep through until morning.

My anxiety always hits at night. Very rare for this to happen to me during daylight hours.

IrisAtwood · 12/04/2023 20:50

Heart pounding
Nausea
Tight chest
Body tingling
Tight feeling in throat
Stomach fluttering
Dizziness
Sweating

Alwaysworryingoversomething · 12/04/2023 20:52

Nausea
Palpitations
Sweating
Head spinning- not literally!

I found beta blockers have helped with these physical symptoms enormously. They've made a huge difference to me.

BMIwoes · 12/04/2023 20:54

Heart thumping in chest. Hollow sick feeling in stomach/diaphragm. If panic attack then throat closing like a straw and feel like I'll pass out. Citalopram helps a lot.

Dogsarebetterthanhumans · 12/04/2023 21:02

OP can I just understand this right, you think that because you have real physical chest symptoms, it must be something more sinister than anxiety?

More people end up in hospital with panic attacks than with heart attacks. The difference is they think they are having heart attacks!!

Anxiety can cause all the symptoms mentioned by the PPs above including palpitations, racing heart, breathlessness, hyperventilation, chest pain, light headedness, sweating, sickness etc.

as always see your Gp if you are using Dr Google currently. All the best OP x

Omg! For a while I've been suffering with chest pain and have wondered why I keep getting it.
After reading this I've realised it is my anxiety!

I have the classic symptoms but never knew chest pain could be one.

I get shaky hands
Dicky stomach
Unable to catch a good breath
Unable to make eye contact/eyes watering

mywashingpileispoorly · 12/04/2023 21:11

I have these 'weird' episodes where my heart is pounding, or I'll get a sharp pain in my chest and then I panic and think I'm having a heart attack, and then my palms go sweaty and I feel really scared.

I'm then on edge for the remainder of the day/night. I went out for dinner on Friday night and wanted to come home so badly because I was sure I was going to die. When I got chatting away to friends it went away and I enjoyed myself.

I have private medical care via Bupa and I've just had a GP appointment who has prescribed Sertraline. Has anyone tried this and did it help?

@givingupchocolatemonday I didn't know either, but I seem to get random stabbing pains and then I panic!

BevMarsh · 12/04/2023 21:14

Chest pain that could be dull or sharp stabs. Often the pain radiated to my upper back. I went to hospital convinced I was having a heart attack many times.
Pins and needles in hands
Can't get a breath
Jelly legs
Twitching eyelid
Out of control feeling and feeling faint.
Sense of impending doom

If you can, the worst thing you can do is panic. In CBT, our thoughts, (I’m dying) fuel our feelings (my chest is stabbing) fuel our behaviours (I want to go home.)

The sertraline will take a couple of weeks or longer to work and might feel like it revs you up a bit first but should help over time.

all the best with everything xx

longtompot · 12/04/2023 21:52

Mine affects my ability to swallow. My jaw tightens and even swallowing water is difficult. I get very shaky, nervous that somethings going to happen.

ireland22999 · 12/04/2023 21:54

Constantly feeling on edge
Always clenching my jaw
Clenching my fists
Short breaths
discomfort in chest area
Heavy feeling in body
Everything feels heavy physically
Mind jumping from here to there

mywashingpileispoorly · 13/04/2023 17:38

Did anyone feel constantly fatigued? I'm absolutely exhausted constantly!

mywashingpileispoorly · 13/04/2023 17:43

@BevMarsh sounds identical to me. Did you get medication?
