Our dentists NHS contract has run out until April, so we have to pay until then!?

Surely this isn't right!? DH has had toothache for months now and every time we've called, they're shut until thursday, then we call on thursday but the answermachine says they're shut till monday...

Anyway, DH got some tranquilisers to help him get to the dentist as he has a phobia of them and we got an appointment for today. However, we were told we would have to pay private fees because the dentists NHS contract has run out until April. I don't understand this at all - can anybody shed any light on it? Can we claim back the money we've had to pay today? (£85)

We would have changed dentists but DH is used to this one and its hard enough to get him there as it is!

Cheers xx

We had a similar situation with the orthodontist. We went to pick up ds2's braces to be told he can't officially have them because they've run out of money until April. They said he can only wear them for 1 hour a day until then to make sure they still fit him in April. It's barmy!
