He's well in himself and it isn't slapped cheek 'cos he's had that

started as a red patch on right cheek and underneath mouth with large 'spots' in it .. now is just small red pin-pinprick spots under mouth, slightly on cheek

he's had it since sunday

any ideas?

Hi TheHollyAndTheTwiglett,
Could it be Impetigo? Sounds very much like the rash my son had a few weeks ago. I thought his face was just 'chapped' but then it started to look a little 'blistered'. Easily cleared up with antibiotics (it's bacterial) but is very contagious until 48 hours after treatment begins. HTH

thanks JakB but don't think it is as there's no blisters ..it's like spots but localised around mouth and slightly on cheek

How old is he and has he had any marmite?? Sounds a strange question but dd used to get a rash sounding exactly like that if she'd had any marmite on her face

ds had same rash, same pimples etc, used to scratch constantly. HV said nothing to worry about, but went to doctor anyway, he gave me HYDROCORTISONE cream, very effective rash was gone in a day, itching subsided so so his little face had a chance to heal.

think it has something to do with teething. keep it moist any way. btw above mentioned cream has streriods in it, i tried everything else, he had rash for 7 months, so i was desperate. but i'm happy because it worked so well and no side effects.

he's 3.9 .. never had a problem with marmite . could his skin be allergic even if he's not when he ingests it?? interesting .. he had a marmite sandwich on sunday (and one today)

it's not actually itchy so don't think steroid cream is necessary

thanks for input guys

might take him to docs tomorrow

Ketchup and marmite do this to lots of children.

Probably would to me too if i smeared it round my face! lol

Hope thats all it is for your little one.

with the marmite dd isn't allergic to it at all - she loves it!! It's just that where she sometimes gets it round her mouth and it is so strong it sort of burns - sounds a bit fierce but i cant think how else to put it!! It leaves her with a rash for a while. :)

Hmmm my Ds has a simliar rash, noticed it first thing this morning. He has about 5/6 small red spots on his cheek, and his cheek looks a little red. He has a bit of a cold so i did wonder if maybe he had just dribbled when asleep and it was from that.
