Hip pain - what have I done to it??

So I had a mild ache in my hips the weekend before last - I put it down to perimenopausal aches and pains as I'd been having a few other symptoms. Last Monday I was feeling good and the sun was shining so I went for a run - just 3k of running/walking as I hadn't been for a while, but by the time I got back I was hobbling and since then I've had varying degrees of discomfort/pain in my right hip. It's quite a deep ache, almost as if I've bruised it, only I didn't hit it off anything!

I've laid off running again, tried some short walks but have been really trying hard to rest it for the past week, but it's still quite sore, especially when I get up after sitting for a while. It's frustrating as I was hoping to do more running - and we've got a few days in London next week, so I expect we'll be walking around a lot!

There's not much more I can do but rest it is there? Anyone care to submit an amateur diagnosis about what it might be? Not sure it's worth bothering a physio as I am fully mobile and it's improving a bit, but perhaps if nothing changes in the next couple of days...

Bursitis, maybe? You could try a good Osteopath/physio, who might be able to advise, and give you a session of massage. I’ve had what was thought to be hip bursitis, and saw an osteopath for a few sessions, which helped, but it did take a couple of months to resolve.

I've looked up bursitis, it could be that perhaps, although it doesn't feel hot or swollen. To add to my frustration I'm recovering from a frozen shoulder which I've had for about a year. Wonder if I'm susceptible to joint issues for some reason?

Bit depressing, I'm 45 and feeling creaky already - I miss exercising already and just want to have a walk or a run without hobbling everywhere afterwards! Confused

I'm following with interest as I'm in the same position...recent trigger has been a bit of running but have had lower back and hip pain on and off for a long time. Sometimes gets better with excercise and sometimes it seems to aggravate it further. It's very frustrating. I manage it with ridiculous amounts of ibuprofen. Yoga and stretching help.

It feels so debilitating when it flares up. I hobble around the house and feel really grumpy.

I suffer with hip/glute pain and I’ve recently discovered it was caused by weak abductors, glutes and obliques. My right hip suddenly went one day going up and down a ladder and couldn’t walk properly. Sought advice from an osteopath which wasn’t super helpful. I’ve found a weekly PT session has done the trick, doing mostly isolation work along with Pilates and lots of pigeon stretches! Hip pain can be caused by weaker muscle groups elsewhere. Our bodies are a chain, when one muscle group under functions, the effects are felt elsewhere.

I'm glad to say the issue had calmed down a good deal before we went to London and I managed to walk and cycle around without much discomfort. The pain is still there off and on but I'm noticing that now I feel it more after sitting for a while, and it feels ok when I'm walking.

Still haven't attempted a run yet as I don't want to see myself back again - I think I'll keep exercising through walking/yoga and hope it eases off completely.
