Could an optician advise how urgent this is?

I have been under a stable glaucoma clinic for several years even though my eye pressure was normal, due to a small loss of visual field in the left eye and a tilted optic nerve in that eye which was discovered at referral.

In January this year a marked deterioration was seen and I was told by a message on the hospital portal that I needed an OCT scan of both eyes and treatment should be considered. As we were moving house I tried to arrange the scan myself at my opticians, but was told that they couldn’t give me results and I would need to register with a new GP to get them sent there. Also they had no appointments available.

We have now moved, and are in the process of registering with a GP. Unfortunately yesterday I had a problem with a severe headache and eye pain in the left eye, and have woken up with the same this morning. I do also have a diagnosis of hemiplegic migraine, but the symptoms don’t seem the same as I wouldn’t typically have a severe headache with that. I also had blurred vision in the left eye for a time yesterday. I am very sensitive to light as well.

My optician is a national chain and I have tried phoning the local branch this morning, but just got a recorded message saying they would call back. Do I need to be seen by someone today?

Thanks for reading, I know it’s long 🙁

No medical knowledge but eyes are precious .Pain is a big warning sign .Yes you need to be seen .
Our local hospital has an eye clinic that you can go to in emergencies during working hours .But A & E if that's not on offer .
I found Specsavers v good (and have previously ,with no knowledge )assumed they'd be rubbish .They did a scan and a letter to take to the hospital .You might need that to be seen at a hospital eye clinic .
Don't leave it .

They have phoned back after me trying twice more, they have completed a triage form and are ringing back once they have spoken to the ophthalmologist

Good ,fingers crossed you get seen .

They saw me this afternoon, I had a scan and thorough examination and they said that my eyes are not the cause of the problem, so I assume it is a new variation on the migraines. I have to get a new referral to the glaucoma clinic at the local hospital once I get word that I am registered at the new GP.
