Gallbladder infection/gallstones- what should I eat?

Internet says don’t eat anything, but Doctor told me to take food with the antibiotics. All I can keep down is a few bites of banana or a tiny amount of special k with skim milk. I’m eating max 300 calories a day and I feel faint & weak. I’m also paranoid it will make my gallstones worse.
I tried soup, bought & made my own, but it gave me stomach ache. I also feel like I’m full of gas, although that may be a side effect of the medication. Can I risk gluten free pasta, a tiny amount? Or is this too much stress on my gallbladder?

Hi, I would avoid anything heavy. Jacket potatoes would set the pain off really bad. I ended up "living" on cereal or plain toast.

Also try not to eat too late in the day. Worse thing about gall bladder stones/infection is the pain is horrendous in the night. Hope you feel better soonDaffodil

Yeah jacket potatoes really fucked me up. I guess I can’t eat anything. The doctor said I could eat anything just nothing fried which I don’t think is very good advice. Everything I eat hurts, even banana. I know I need to lose weight but man a crash starvation via banana diet is not what I had in mind.

I'm a gallbladder surgeon.

Plain white rice and grilled chicken breast is your best bet.

Sorry OP don’t to derail but am literally laying here in agony myself with what I’m convinced is gall bladder pain. Strong family history and started last night after a very cheesy pizza! Sounds like I’m at the start of a journey you’re on. Sending you every good wish and hopeful for some good advice I can follow too! GP tomorrow for me if I can get an appointment.

I literally had agonising attacks for years & put it down to ‘indigestion’. God knows what my gallbladder looks like. 🙄

Thank you. But last time I ate rice I had horrendous stomach pain. I’m scared to try chicken.

Just eat very bland low fat, low carb food. Like chicken and rice but very small portions at a time. Don't fast for a long time and then eat (I found that gave me an attack). Best to eat little and often.
Are you having surgery??
I started getting attacks October and didn't have a scan until Feb. My stomach was constantly sore!! I had mine removed the end of Feb (two weeks after the scan), because it got infected.

SwirlyShirly · 02/04/2023 11:34

They say to avoid fat and spices food I think, but to be very honest with you, I had a terrible attack after an apple so I think if you've got a bad gall bladder it's going to happen regardless of what you eat, just small bland, low fat options might reduce the risk 🤷🏻‍♀️

Fluffygreenslippers · 02/04/2023 11:56

Everything I ate right now I just get pain. I just ate a plain pitta and now i’m burping, feel sick and have pain. I guess my body can’t process any food at the moment.

Make sure you get checked if you carry on feeling unwell, one time I got a stone stuck in my bile duct and was very poorly and ended up in hospital bright yellow with jaundice. Gall bladder can also become infected so if it doesn't improve in the normal period of time for you, get checked over.

swirly456 · 02/04/2023 20:46

You need surgery to remove it if it's got that bad.

It is infected. I’m on antibiotics.

I’m on antibiotics for the infection & will have surgery in the future.

@Fluffygreenslippers okay but it won't just get better with anti biotics. You will
Most likely need it removing
