Adult Chickenpox Vaccine

Has anyone ever had the chickenpox vaccine as an adult?

I’ve never had chickenpox and I’ve seen horror stories about catching it as an adult (I’m 31). I have a 3 year old in childcare so I’m expecting it to hit our house over the next few years! I can’t decide whether to get the vaccination or just hope I’m immune?

Me! Had it after I had my first child and before I got pregnant with my second so aged about 37. Absolutely fine - no side effects, two injections about £70 each. Also had my second child vaccinated.

My husband had it last week, we have 2 kids and on a count down to it arriving in the house. He’s got to have a 2nd dose soon but no side effects

Also never had it as a child - always assumed I'd had it v mildly or natural immunity as I lived in close contact with my sister and father when they had it the same time but never caught it. Had a blood test when pregnant the first time which showed no immunity hence having the vaccine before number 2!!

Thanks for everyone’s replies - I think that’s make my mind up!

My sister had it as an adult when she trained as a nurse. They were tested and found she had no antibodies so gave her the vaccine. Unfortunately she still had no antibodies after the vaccine and they eventually after no response to three doses they gave up. She has never had CP though, even when her DC were riddled with it, so I imagine she has some kind of natural immunity.

Has your child been vaccinated? I'd start with getting them done.

My DH hasn't had it so we got both the kids done. Eldest did still catch it but it was super mild. Neither youngest nor DH caught it from him.
