Anaemia question - can a type of iron become less effective?

Hi, going to the gp next week but does anyone know if you’re on long term iron I.e ferrous sulphate, whether it becomes less effective over time?

I would notice an effect really quickly when taking it for anaemia before but now I can take it for weeks and feel no difference and still have all the classic anaemia symptoms I usually get. I’m so fed up so I’m wondering could it just be a case of trying a different iron?

Thanks!
