am finally facing up to the fact that I need a veneer on my root canal treated (and dead as a dodo) front tooth. My dentist here said he would recommend doing 8 top front teeth as they are all in less than perfect nick and that he could do it for about, ho hum, 3,200 to 4,000 quid. Ahem. I am therefore looking at other options and had heard Hungary had excellent dentists that charged far less than this. Anyone been there, or know anything more about this? Google throws up lots of hits but its tricky to work out which are just ads, sponsored sites and which are genuine. A recommendation would be great.

Not in Hungary, but I have had veneers, and they are not something you can get in one appointment. You need 3 minimum, with plenty of time for lab work in between. If they were providing a quality service, you would need to either stay there for several weeks, or fly back and forth. Thsi would soon use up the several thousand you'd spend here.

Do you have 8 teeth on show when you smile? Could you get away with just having six done?

oh yikes - that sounds tricky!

What about Malta? Similar dental tourism set up, but nicer to visit.

never thought of Malta - have you had work done there?

I've had dental work down in............

CHINA!

It was great! 400GBP for about 3,000 poundsworth. Not sure if it would be worth the journey, jetlag, culture shock etc, but I was there anyway. I thought of Malta as its very 'comfy', English speaking, not far, sunny etc.

Poland is supposed to be very good and cheap. I have no specific recommendations though. By the way I agree that 6 is usually enough.

jeangenie · 12/02/2008 11:32

oooh, 6 would be better (unless I have a really huge )

wouldn't be surprised if my dentist was trying to get me to sign up for 8 just to get a bit more cash

this is what one of the hungarian dental groups say:

The cost of veneers is £180 each and each tooth
has to be prepared in order to fix the veneer in place. The total time
involved to complete this treatment including the making of the veneers is 5
working days.

5 days sound short in the light of earlier comments
