Flu like symptoms that come and go for years…anyone relate?

Around 5 years a go I started having flu like symptoms, so run down, achy, uncomfortable throat (not sore). It came and went though out the day some days didn’t come at all. These symptoms disappeared for months then returned then disappeared for a year, then came back even worse when I was pregnant, then went 4 months after giving birth. Disappeared for a year and just coming back again now.

I honestly can’t explain how horrible it is and how scared I am of living the nightmare again!! I’ve seen so many different doctors and they just don’t listen, I’ve had a lot of bloods done all negative, thyroid is fine was tested for lupus, tested for early menopause. I don’t particularly get fatigue so don’t think it’s CFS.

can anyone relate??

I have the same thing! For the past four months since giving birth I've been having recurring flu-like symptoms that come and go at random. At first I thought it was related to mastitis but antibiotics don't shift it. It's not so bad that I have to stay in bed, but I generally feel achy and just bleurgh a lot of the time. I do have an underactive thyroid so am wondering if I need to up my dose of thyroxine. Are you sure that your thyroid is fine - even some people with borderline issues can have really profound symptoms?

@Princesspeach31 Thank you so much for your reply! I sorry you’re going through a rough time too. Might be worth checking with your GP about your thyroid. I have been so convinced that it’s my thyroid but GPs are so dismissive. My TSH was 2.5 which they say is within range but then I’ve read different online. Might have to go private tbh. Can thyroid symptoms come and go for months/years do you know?

thanks

When I was first diagnosed it was after going to the dr with recurrent UTIs and skin dryness - my immune system was obviously shot. But looking back I also had waves of fatigue like what I’m experiencing now…some days or weeks I felt much better than others. So it could well be your thyroid - I’d definitely seek a second opinion!

Did they dismiss fibromyalgia? It is similar in a lot of symptoms to Lupus which you have mentioned.
