He is 6.5. Came home from school last Monday looking very tired and within an hour was lying on sofa very lethargic and with a temp. Has been off school since. Seemed a bit better on Thursday - his temp didn't go back up but he wasn't sleeping well at night so I kept him off school on Friday too - temp went back up on Friday. Took him to doc on Saturday and it is just a virus. No infection. Temp has been OK since. Still has a cough and very dry and sore lips. He has been very lethargic and has fallen asleep on the sofa every afternoon for a few hours. Been going to bed around 9 which is normal for him.

So. Should I send him back to school? He doesn't seem really well yet but am worried as he has been off for a week already and it is half term next week.

I probably wouldn't. He sounds as though he could do with more time at home taking it easy, and at 6.5 he should be able to catch up when he gets back easily enough.
Hope he's better soon.

nah

Well I kept him off again today and he seemed much better in himself - eating better, drinking and seemed to have more energy. Then he fell asleep again on the sofa for over 2 hours.

So do I send him tomorrow or not? Still has a cough and a snotty nose.

I'd give him one more day ... unless absolutely hyper in the morning.

My DTs have been just like this for the past week, though are 4 so a bit younger and nursery rather than school. One is def ok to go back to nursery tomorrow but the other is still really whingy and lethargic and hasn't eaten properly for about 5 days. The trouble is, DT1 won't go back without DT2, we've had to bribe her .

At 6.5 I'd say its far moreimportant for him to get better and enjoy half term than it is to get a few extra days of school (and i'm a teacher )

Buda - has your DS had chicken pox? - it sounds exactly what my DS had recenty just before he got Chicken Pox!

Buda · 12/02/2008 19:08

Oh God Smurfs! NOOOOOOoooooooh!

He hasn't had CP and we are flying on Friday!

No I think it was a fluey thing - a friend's DS had it too (and she had a baby on Saturday and now her other DS has come down with it!). We took him to doc on Saturday and it seems just a virus.

Just seems to have taken a lot out of him.

Buda, my DS had all the symptons you describe and the minute the spots appeared the temperature dropped back down to normal. Last of DS spots 'crusted over' at the weekend and tonight got DD out if the bath and counted 11 spots on her! here we go again!!

Buda · 12/02/2008 20:30

OK Smurfs - DS temp has been normal since Friday. He is just shattered - it is NOT CP!

Please!

ok if you insist seriously at this time of year they are just exhausted with school etc so he probably just needs lots of yummy food, bit of television and some fresh air....oh an a holiday!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/02/2008 10:31

If you are flying on friday I'd let him have the rest of the week off. It sounds like its hit him quite hard. Theres a mean high temp bug going round here atm.

Buda · 13/02/2008 11:41

He had all of last week off too except Monday OYBK. He is now officially bored though and is looking forward to going back tomorrow.

TBH now I think going back will do him good. He will be back for 2 days and the off for a week for half-term.
