ds1 is really constipated. Offered lots of fruit which he is eating but wont take the medicine that the pharmicist gave me, fig leaf syrup.

Any suggestions?

Prune juice? All Bran or similar cereal? What about Lactulose? Not sure tho if you can buy that over the counter, but I managed to get that down my dd. Cloudy, old fashioned apple juice used to go through me like a dose of salts too!
Remember he will need to be drinking plenty of fluids as well.
You have my sympathies however. Have been through this with dd.

Prune juice is good, but you will need to disguise it (maybe in coke if you can bear to give it to him). And linseed is great, if you can mix that in with his cereal or cooking. It REALLY works, so don't give him too much. Adn make sure he drinks plenty of fluids. In fact, constipation can sometimes be caused by not enough fluid

I bought Lactulose solution from my chemist -on their advice. Its clear, quite sweet liquid, i think you take a teaspoon twice a day, or you can hide it in fruit juice.
Cost around £5 for the bottle, which is quite big, maybe 500ml

I worked with a continence advisor at a hospital for a while. She recommended two soft ripe pears to patients to get things moving. Strong coffee also does the trick but this is getting very desparate. Caffine and kids, not a good combination.

Prune juice or lactulose in large glass of juice at teatime so it can work overnight.
Avoid giving something first thing in morning to avoid embarassment at school.

spinach soup and gallons of water.

Okay, so it's not medicinal but, sugar free polo's always do the trick in this house. Lots of pooping first but the constipation is cured!

What can you do to help a constipated mathematitian?

Give him a pencil so that he can work it out. . I know it's in bad taste but it's funny.

We had the same... fig syrup worked really well (although took a day or so to have an effect). DD also hated it so we gave it to her in her bottle of milk - perhaps you could try diluting it in a drink?
