Painful lump on hard palate

Noticed it today, coinciding with a common cold. Do common colds cause this? It's slightly disconcerting. Don't usually get health anxiety but for some reason this is really bugging me. Not a cancer sore or cold sore, but a hard, painful lump...

I had something similar and when I pressed the lump it hurt, I also couldn't stop touching it with my tongue. I ended up going to the dentist for an (unrelated) toothache and they checked the lump and said it was bone changes on my hard palate and nothing to worry about. The dentist said I have the same on the right side but the left side is more pronounced. That was a couple of months back and I forget its even there now. If you feel anxious about it, book a check up with your dentist to get it looked at.

Did you have a toothache, or currently have a toothache?

No haven't had a tooth ache. It's just a small lump about the size of a large pea and is quite red.

When I first noticed my lump I didn't have a toothache, but a month later I got a tooth ache and went to the dentist

I'll see if it disappears and am hoping it's somehow linked to this cold I have.

I get this most months before or during my period - according to my dentist it's a hormonal response. It's painful for a couple of days but manageable with ibuprofen.

@WindowGazers ah I see. I had a lump, it appeared a few months after I had a bit of a toothache (not awful pain). There wasn't any toothache at all by time lump appeared, but decided to get lump checked at dentist, turned out it was abscessed tooth- but dentist said she'd never seen lump on that side.

I'd arrange a dentist appointment to get it checked (if it doesn't resolve by itself).
