I'm never been a fan of his but every little helps. I've been waiting for an app for my daughter to have a 3D brain scan.

Wow well done him! Great idea.

HeddaGarbled · 24/02/2023 23:45

It’s such a clever way of doing it. I remember when Captain Tom raised all that money for the NHS, the NHS weren’t actually able to accept it to pay for healthcare, so it all went to “NHS charities”, but he’s circumvented that by donating to a private provider taking NHS clients.

RichardsGear · 24/02/2023 23:51

It's a drop in the ocean but fair play to him. Will be interesting to see if the likes of Bono and Bob Geldof will follow suit.

PatientZorro · 24/02/2023 23:56

Hmm, it’s just a shame old Rod wasn’t quite so charitable all those years he spent living in various tax havens. Paying for a day’s MRI scans goes no way to making up for your years of tax avoidance Rod. Imagine how many MRI scanners could have been bought had he been paying fair taxes all this time.

Windbeneathmybingowings · 24/02/2023 23:57

He has been called tight for years so this speaks volumes about the state of the NHS. Good on him!

Oh FFS. He lives here now and is doing something good. Can you not focus on that instead of something negative.
Nice one Rod.

Maybe Rod, Elton, Mick, Paul, Bob and Bono could club together to provide scans for the entire country, with a few hip replacements thrown in as a bonus. Then Charles and William could start sorting out social care and the deficit in school budgets.

Deadringer · 25/02/2023 00:17

Why would Bono contribute?

BitOutOfPractice · 25/02/2023 00:18

Sad state of affairs that we’ve come to this I’d say

OhNoNotThatAgain · 25/02/2023 00:37

Good for Rod Stewart.

@RichardsGear Have you never heard of the Elton John Aids Foundation? He does his bit for charity already, and has done for years; he is associated with more than 50 of them. As for Bono - He's Irish so why would he be funding the NHS? He has donated to umpteen charities including Amnesty International, the Red Cross, UNICEF and Oxfam.

RichardsGear · 25/02/2023 07:35

I don't give a monkey's that he's Irish. Just get sick of famous people with vast wealth imploring ordinary people who are probably struggling themselves to give money. See also bloody charity telethons. Anyway it was hardly a serious suggestion.

picklemewalnuts · 25/02/2023 07:41

You can't pick a random celebrity from a different country to support British people though.

Nah, if you’re so easily impressed by crumbs when he has deliberately short-changed public service for years so he can keep more of his lucre than bully for you, be as naive as you like. Oh look, a squirrel….

RampantIvy · 25/02/2023 08:28

There's always one Hmm

I think it's great that he is doing this. I hope other wealthy celebrities follow suit.
