Think I’ve overhydrated and feel very anxious

I have drank about 3l in 3 hours due to me trying to flush out a urine infection. Didn’t think much of it stupidly but felt a bit sick and then googled overhydration and saw a woman died drinking 4 litres in 2 hours and her first symptom was feeling sick. I feel fine other than feeling a little sick.

I feel really panicked about it and don’t know what to do. I just peed and it is a light yellow so not clear and I’ve had a multivitamin/something salty to try and balance it.

Any advice please?

Phone 111 for advice (if in UK) ?

You've only drank 50% as much as that lady. Seek telephone advise but don't panic.

Agree with calling 111 and I'm not a doctor so obviously follow expert advice, not a random from t'internet's...

BUT honestly, you will be fine. I think the kidneys flush out something close to a litre per hour, so you might be slightly out of the recommended zone (which is probably why you feel a bit sick, plus you have a water infection which won't help the sick feeling!), but not real danger zone. Again, please ring 111 for advice, but don't panic x

Call 111

Rebel2 · 23/02/2023 22:56

I'm sure you'll be fine. I drink a lot, always have done and sometimes do 2 litres over 90 mins in a spin class

Mariposista · 23/02/2023 23:22

You should be ok with 3L (although I am impressed that you could get that much in!)
OP are you also on antibiotics for your infection? Please don't just try and fight it with water alone.

Everythingstaken · 23/02/2023 23:24

Please phone 111 and get advise. Excessive consumption of water can cause your sodium levels to drop which can be dangerous if they drop too low. Try not to panic but please seek advise.

You could try going for a walk to metabolise some of it x

NewtoHolland · 25/02/2023 06:27

If you feel poorly head to get checked you might need a saline infusion to top up your sodium. If you want to flush out a UTI it would be better to drink isotonic and diuretic drinks and not so much volume.
The poster who is drinking that in spin class I hope you are also replacing your electrolytes.

It was two days ago, so hopefully OP is feeling better now.
