Please help! Literally can’t stop coughing!!

This is awful.

Night 3 of sleep being effected by coughing but tonight has reached new levels - cannot stop coughing. Lying down is impossible, sitting up isn’t much better. It is constant. And I mean constant. DH has gone to sleep in another room.

Earlier this week I thought it was slightly productive but it now feels very dry and tickly.

I had/have some sort of virus…started with aches, shivers - sore neck, glands etc. then cough started but it wasn’t too troublesome. Now it’s unbearable. And tonight my nose and eyes have started to stream despite the fact that feel much better now in myself.

Any advice?

I feel desperate.

Went down and made a cuppa tea and hot milk with honey to see if either helps. Also took some piriton in desperation,

I spoke to someone in boots earlier and they suggested Pholcodine cough medicine but it was out of stock. Went to another pharmacy and was told I won’t get it anywhere just now 😞

As the previous poster said, if you have a cough for 3 weeks see your GP. Codeine cough medicine may suppress a cough but it can make you constipated.

@BertaHoon - I had a chronic cough for years and went to a cough clinic to see a specialist. Ask your GP to refer you to the nearest one. It changed my life

It’s only been a few days thankfully. Not near 3 weeks yet but will definitely get checked out if it persists.

I’m coughing a lot tonight but nothing like last night.

Going to go and make a drink with honey, take some covonia and throat spray and hope I can get some sleep

I got some covonia - it isn’t a suppressant though sadly
