DS not well - strange bug? Tummy ache , fever, sickness

DS was sick Friday night and again last night - had eaten more or less normally in between but complained of tummy ache. Last night sick in the night and again first thing and lunchtime today. No vomiting since then but spiked a temperature last night and it's gone up again now to 38.3.
It's so odd. With a sick bug I'd have expected more regular vomiting but the temperature has thrown me off. Think the headache is dehydration.
Have given nurofen which brought temp down and he is drinking but not a lot.
Could it be some weird food poisoning? Or just a kind of flu thing? Poor thing should have been sitting GCSE mocks tomorrow

Sounds similar to symptoms my son had when he was about 8. It turned out to be mesenteric adonitis, where the lymph nodes in his stomach were swollen. Apparently it's relatively common. It was a really worrying time though because there seemed no rhyme or reason to it. We took him to A&E because he was in so much discomfort with his stomach, they ruled out appendicitis and did an ultra sound on his stomach where they discovered the issue with his lymph nodes. It don't remember him having any specific medication other than pain killers and it resolved itself. Take care

DS had a similar bug was complaining of feeling sick on the Tuesday night and all day Wednesday. Wasn't actually sick until very late on the Wednesday night, was fine most of the Thursday then was sick again on the Friday. Didn't stop feeling sick until the Monday.

My son was v similar last eeek it was scarlet fever antibiotics have helped massively

PoorlyDS · 19/02/2023 21:43

@Grumpybutfunny sounds very similar to DS.
@coronafiona how did you get scarlet fever diagnosed? Did he have a rash?
I may phone docs tomorrow

@PoorlyDS yes diagnosed by a dr and has penicillin which has made huge difference. It started with a very severe fever temps 39-40, shaking, unable to drink or eat saying couldnt move head and light hurting eyes.initially diagnosed a virus but after 4 days we went back and penicillin was prescribed. He was sick the next day but 48hrs of medicine and he's almost back to normal thank goodness.
He was not really red just had a transient rash on his back which I put down to a virus at that time.

PoorlyDS · 19/02/2023 21:53

@coronafiona wow sounds scary. I'd have been worried at not being able to turn head. DS has been shivering along with the temp but I see no rash. Just grey looking skin bless him

It was terrifying and it makes me grateful for the NHS and absolutely raging at what this govt is doing to it but that is another story.
I hope you get it sorted x

Honestly, test for COVID, that was my daughter a week ago, doctor prescribed antibiotics for scarlet fever, it wasn't scarlet fever, it was COVID.

Same here with both ds and Dh over the last few weeks. Woke up, vomitted, fever (burning up, shaking), sore neck and general aches and pains. Lasted for 24 hours then it was gone. With ds who is 3 I was worried about meningitis as he’d complained that the sun was in his eyes despite it being on the other side of the house. GP saw him the next day (no appointment on first day and 111 said he was to be seen within 24 hours) said raised lymph nodes and red throat pointed to infection/virus but as he was presenting fine then keep an eye on him.
DH complained of fatigue and aches and pains for a week (whilst buried in the dressing gown of doom of course)

TeaandHobnobs · 19/02/2023 22:35

We had this week before last. DD just had a sharp tummy ache, was recovered within 24hrs. DS started feeling unwell at school (tummy ache), vomited on the way home, and was off colour for a few days, barely ate, but wasn’t sick again. Had a weird relapse about a week later when he got motion sickness from a computer game, and spiked a temp and had a stiff neck - but was fine again the next day.
Then I was sick one morning but fine by the evening.
It was going around in huge numbers at school, whatever it was - just a virus I suppose.

PoorlyDS · 20/02/2023 19:29

Thanks all - this is really reassuring. Doc called today and have requested a poo sample but otherwise said likely a virus. Lady at work said her son has had similar last week while i was off.
DS has got a temp again today and shivery but has asked for fat Coke and ice water and staying hydrated and hasn't vomited again today thankfully

Bless him, could it be norovirus. It’s doing the rounds and highly contagious xx

PoorlyDS · 21/02/2023 07:12

He seemed a bit better last night but thrown up again this morning - managed cheese on toast last night - the only thing he'd eaten
I'm wondering now if food related
