Can I moan? This hideous bug has thrown our lives out of joint for a week and a half.

ds1 started with it last Mon night - bit of fever while asleep. He was OK, albeit quiet and little appetite, for a couple of days, but always became feverish at night. Eventually it turned into a cough and cold. He's gradually got better but his energy levels have only returned gradually and he's lost weight, which as a 3rd-centile boy he can't really afford to Friday it got me and I felt hideous for days - aches, pains, fever for 4 days running. Monday I was diagnosed with bronchitis. Have felt reasonable-ish since Tuesday but still pretty wiped out and masses behind on everything. Sunday night ds2 (4mo) started with fever - doctor on Mon concerned about his chest - had to go back on Weds, but then all fine and temps normal. Developed cold symptoms in the meantime. Today the fever is back. Measured 38.85 before and gave paracetamol. Doctor's instructions are to go to hospital if temp hits 39 overnight. dh has cold/cough symptoms but holding up well.

I am not used to being ill and not very used to ill children (ds1 was never ill), so feel quite knocked for six by it all. The long-drawn-outness of it all has done for me. Veguely hysterically, I feel at the whim of some kind of virus with independent intelligence that has another go just when you think it must be going .

Do your worst. There's More of This to Come, isn't there?

Oh you poor things
Ds had this over Christmas, needed two different antibiotics to shift the chest infection which then developed, and was actually the illest he has ever been in nearly nine years, so I absolutely understand the feeling sheer angst at this nasty virus.
But...you will get through it. Get ds1 on good ice-cream, calorific and balm to the convalescent soul. Have some yourself. Send dh out to get it XXX

Chances are you are through the worst. I sympathise. I'm pregnant and I have flu. I also have a daughter who is getting over it by waking up every hour to scream at me.

Tis the season I'm afraid. In a few weeks we will be past 'peak pestilence' time.

Miraculously ds2 is now fever-free. I'd never have beieved it after he was nearly at 39 earlier.

Sadly I now have a domestic crisis of another nature. Won't go into detail now.

oh its horrible, week before christmas - ds had ear infection, dd with throat and dh had flu. it was terrible!!!! i did go hysterical with it all in the end.

i hope you are all better soon x x x

berolina · 08/02/2008 16:39

thanks. There's something a bit parallel-universish about being in a house full of illness, isn't there?

For anyone who cares : oh happy day healthwise in the bero household. ds1 has an appetite, ds2 has been fever-free all day, and we went out for a family walk. I tired quickly, and still don't want coffee, so know I'm not quite 100% yet, but it just feels so nice for things healthwise to be halfway normal.

still don't want coffee? But seriously, glad you are on the mend bero

berolina · 09/02/2008 20:11

Yes - my one or two daily cups from my Senseo with lots and lots of milk are usually happy landmarks in my day, but I haven't been able to face any for 9 or 10 days now. ds2's sling hurt, too, which is very unusual. But I see Full Health approaching and am very grateful. The other crisis is a bit more concerning, but I reckon we'll manage.
