I cracked one a week ago - have had a couple of good days this week but this am it was blardy agony again!

Am meant to be going on holiday in 10 days but the thought of a 10 hour flight if it is feeling bad is not appealing.

Dh and i were carrying on a few years ago and i cracked one of his ribs dont ask!!!!!!!

HE was off work for a week and dr gave him strong pain killers. Was back at work the next week but his ribs ached for a few weeks after.

Im sure you will be fine. Enjoy your hols. Where you off to?

CountessDracula · 07/02/2008 16:11

Tobago (i hope)

I would rather cancel it and go when I'm feeling better if it is going to be as painful as it was today!

I fractured a rib a year or so ago, falling off a horse.

I can remember the sheer agony of it, so I really feel for you. Getting up from sitting, and up from lying was the worst iirc. In fact, dh dragged me out in his lotus once, and I WAILED the whole time.

I think the pain lasted a few weeks tbh

If you can, can you postpone the holiday? Will you lose a lot of money?

Otherwise get some really strong painkillers.

Peridot30 · 07/02/2008 16:15

VEry nice!!

IM sure you will be fine. Even though it was uncomfortable dh went back to work the week after and his job is manual so was bending and lifting things the very next week.

CountessDracula · 07/02/2008 16:16

No won't lose anything as am insured

pmsl @ your dh breaking a rib like that, wish mine has been so interesting!

I have voltarol but am loathe to take them much as they are not too good with Crohn's, ditto anything with codeine in

are there any other painkillers you could have cd?

it would help greatly to be pain free (obv)

CountessDracula · 07/02/2008 16:20

I am just having paracetomal and the odd voltarol when it is really painful

Codeine bungs me up which causes me terrible pain!

OP posts:
CountessDracula · 07/02/2008 16:20

Can you suggest any others?

OP posts:
nailpolish · 07/02/2008 16:26

ummmmm

will have to think

i really really dont want to see you cancel this holiday, it sounds like just the tonic you need

tiredemma · 07/02/2008 16:30

Dp has a broken rib at the moment. Codeine makes him sick so he has been having 500mg tabs of paracetamol every now and again.

can you have ibrufen?

Mad as it sounds- he has found that 'deepheat' has taken the edge off the pain.

He started to feel 'more comfortable' (not pain free mind) after about 14 days.

He can sneeze now without screaming 'fuck' immediatly afterwards.

How did you crack your rib?

CountessDracula · 07/02/2008 16:32

Ah that is good
I can already sneeze (most of the time) without screaming fuck! The first time I sneezed I screamed a lot worse than that I can tell you

I broke it falling over a garden chair in the dark

what about tramadol? voltarol is like brufen isnt it? not great for crohns etc

i am NOT an expert cd

have you asked gp about topical analgesia? gels, etc

hth

tiredemma · 07/02/2008 16:36

was you pissed?

I really think that the initial awaful pain wears off after about 10 days.

STRONG painkillers- and a hot water bottle for the flight should help.

nailpolish · 07/02/2008 16:36

tbh if you were in an orthopaedic ward you would be started on paracetamol

its vastly underrated

CountessDracula · 07/02/2008 16:38

nono I am mainly just doing paracetomal tbh
I think it is great

Interesting tramadol fact from Wiki:

Rapper Russell Jones (a.k.a. Ol' Dirty Bastard) died from an overdose of a combination of cocaine and tramadol on November 13, 2004

No I wasn't drunk!

I have only recently appreciated the benefits of paracetamol. For years I wrote it off as a 'soft painkiller' - But recent horrific hangovers have proven it to be the 'daddy' of painkillers

nailpolish · 07/02/2008 16:40

could you manage holiday with large amounts fo paracetamol bearing in mind there will be supply of alcohol in the hotel bar...

CountessDracula · 07/02/2008 16:42

Well yes hopefully I can
but my thinking is I am insured, why not wait til school hols and go then when rib better

OP posts:
nailpolish · 07/02/2008 16:46

nailpolish · 07/02/2008 16:47

CountessDracula · 08/02/2008 10:16
